To mark the 20th anniversary of Urban Lab Torino, Graphic Days and Print Club Torino created a workshop that transformed the city into a place to listen, observe and reinterpret through signs.

Rhythm and sign

2025

Eventi

Turin has a rhythm that never stops: sometimes discreet, sometimes overwhelming, but always alive. During the workshop Rhythm and sign, simultaneous translation, participants learned to listen to the city, letting themselves be guided by the sounds that pass through it: the transit of a tram, the voices of the market, the rustling of trees moved by the wind, the sound of footsteps on the pavement. This attentive and collective listening gave rise to signs, patterns and visual gestures — graphic translations of a soundscape that often goes unnoticed. To give shape to these traces, unconventional tools were designed: analogue devices capable of transforming vibrations into signs, noise into rhythm, listening into images.

It was an experience of discovery and experimentation, an invitation to slow down, change perspective and tune into a different frequency. Through Rhythm and Sign, the city became a living soundtrack and every gesture a form of storytelling. An act of shared listening that made visible what usually remains invisible — that buzz that accompanies our gaze without us noticing. A way to visually restore the energy of the places we live in every day, transforming the sounds of Turin into movement, image and connection.
